Back To Reality

I woke up this morning to a reality check.

I have yet another dentist appointment this morning-this one to finish up the crown I found out I needed about a month ago. My dentist is a very nice man. Actually, all the people who work there are super nice, too. (They have to be to put up with me!)

Here’s my confession:  I really hate going to the dentist. Really. I break out in a cold sweat. And I whine. And I get embarrassed about my behavior, because really, I’m one of those people who tries to be nice…

Anyway, this dentist appointment is a sign that it’s time to Get Back To Reality.

All week I’ve been coasting along in a state of perpetual happiness. Autumn’s Promise has been receiving wonderful reviews. On Monday the article in USA Today came out. And, to top it off, yesterday was my birthday. (I really love birthdays!)

Obviously, I’ve had lots of GREAT things to celebrate. And, boy, have I been celebrating!

Last night some girlfriends came over and we had a celebration/pot luck dinner. One gal made the most amazing  dark chocolate cake. Not a one of us said a word about calories, it was so good!

I’ve also received three bouquets of roses this week! My husband brought me home roses on Tuesday before he flew out of town, my son sent me roses yesterday, along with a note that was so sweet it made me cry…and last night my girlfriends showed up with the most beautiful bouquet of pink roses.

 My living room smells amazing!

But, well…this is not my usual life. My usual life involves sitting in my windowless office in the basement and writing 5 to 6 hours a day. And today, (after I sweat and whine at the dentist’s office) that’s where I’ll be. I have The Protector to finish (which is really very good, if I do say so myself) and major revisions of The Caregiver to do (which right now is not very good, unfortunately…).

I’m looking forward to settling in and working hard. After all, getting the chance to write for a living is truly a blessing.

But I have a feeling that I’ll be running upstairs a little more than usual, just to look at the flowers, sneak another bite of cake, and reread my birthday cards…as the dentist could tell you, I have a lot of faults. <g>

I hope everyone else is having a good week, too! Thank you to everyone who wrote me on Facebook yesterday! Y’all really made my birthday special!

Shelley,
Happy Birthday! It sounds like your family and friends made your day extra special and you totally deserve it1 Also, you should be “coasting along in a state of perpetual happiness” because Autumn’s Promise is awesome and I am not a bit surprised that it is getting wonderful reviews. I can’t believe I have not finished it yet because I got it Saturday and planned on finishing it by the next day. But I got a little sick that night and then all week I have been busy beyond belief, including a dentist appointment in which I also learned that I need a crown (I think we do have a lot in common!) Anyway, my plan tonight is to get a cup of hot chocolate, hit the couch and enjoy the rest of this very special book. I am on Chapter 22 and want to just sit here in the air conditioning and finish it but the girls and I actually have to leave in a little bit to help family and then I think we’re going to the county fair tonight. Have a wonderfull weekend!

Hi Shelley

Happy Belated Birthday! It sounds like you had a really great day.

I don’t envy you your dentist appoinment. I hope it went well. I hate going to the dentist. And I have at least three appointments starting next Thursday for fillings that I have been putting off getting. I just hate that needle going into my gums.

The last time I had to have fillings I was so embarassed. I went to rince and spit and splashed all over a stack of paper towells.

I finished Autumn’s Promise almost as soon as I got it. I didn’t do much of anything else until I finished it. I’m so glad Lilly got a happy ending.

Poor Keri. I hope your dentist appointment went better than mine did! I ended up sitting in that dentist chair for almost two hours.

Hope you had a great time at the fair! Okay…what kind of ‘Fair food’ do you like? I was always a fan of corndogs at the Texas State Fair!

Keri Sherman says:

Two hours? wow! It’ll probably be just as long for me but oh well, guess it has to be done. We did have a good time at the fair and I actually ended up getting a gigantic corn dog and a lemonade shake up, yum! I usually get a funnel cake too but we didn’t this year.
By the way, Autumn’s Promise was a beautiful story, I enjoyed it so much. Now, of course, I’m just dying to read Grace! Thanks again for all of your wonderful stories!

Jeanette, hope those appointments are going well! I read all afternoon on Sunday. Nothing better than sitting with hot tea and a new book!
