We had a snow day here in Cincinnati! It was a perfect day to finally try out a recipe from The Amish Cook’s Baking Book.
I decided to make soft pretzels. They were easy, turned out great, and only took me about thirty minutes! I’ll definitely make them again.
Here’s the recipe:
Soft Pretzels (makes 6)
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup warm water
1 3/4 cups bread flour
1 egg
coarse salt for sprinkling
Preheat over to 425. Grease a baking sheet. Mix and dissolve yeast, sugar, and salt in warm water. Stir in flour until a ball forms. Put dough on a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Divide and roll the dough into pretzel shapes. Place on baking sheet. Beat the egg and brush on unbaked pretzels. Sprinkle with the salt. Bake until they are a light golden color, 10 minutes.
In other news, my copies of Winter’s Awakening arrived!! Tomorrow I’ll send out 20 copies to the winners of my last drawing. : )
