Does your daily schedule change much in the summer? This year, mine has! I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but my husband and I had settled very nicely into our ‘empty nest’ routine. The house was pretty clean and organized. Sleep? Not a problem. Work? I worked a lot. Maybe even too much.
May brought my college kids home as well as Rudy-The-Puppy. Now with my son in Houston, Lesley, Tom, and I have been doing our best to be on ‘Rudy Watch’. We’ve learned (the hard way) that one puppy unattended means things get chewed and ‘accidents’ happen. In a few weeks my daughter will go off to Ireland for a three week class-then Tom and I will really be on puppy duty. For those of you who might remember my little miniature dachshund Suzy-yes, she’s still here, she’s just been having as little to do with the pup as she can! On some days, I don’t blame her one bit.
Anyway, in the midst of kids and vaccuuming and dog walking and lots of cooking, I’ve been doing my best to work a little less. It’s been a bit of a struggle, but I’m slowly remembering that there’s more to me than being a writer. I’ve been reading and riding my exercise bike, and well, simply trying to get out a little more.
On Friday night, my husband got Reds tickets, and I think I smiled the whole time we were at the stadium. On Friday night, it wasn’t too hot or too humid-a rare perfect evening. Tom and I cheered for the Reds and ate hot dogs and peanuts. It was a great time. In the middle of the fifth inning, I went to the gift shop and bought myself a Reds hat and my son a t-shirt. Here’s the photo that we texted him-showing that I had success in finding Arthur a Chapman shirt.
Tomorrow, I’ll have news about The Search, and lots of booksigning dates to announce. Today, though, it’s back to writing for me. I may be kind-of/sort-of on summer break…but I still have some books to write!

Happy Monday!

Shelley, just had a thought. If your husband has to go out of town while Lesley & Arthur are away you will have “Rudy watch” 24\7.
Maybe you could get a sitter.
Jeanette
Jeanette, believe me, I’ve thought the same thing! Luckily though, he likes hanging out in the fenced back yard with me. So I’ll type on my laptop, and Rudy will hopefully amuse himself for a couple of hours.
Great to know that you and your family are Reds fans too! I never miss a televised game but haven’t been to the new park. Good luck with your Rudy watch!
