Ten Things I Love About Sugarcreek

Posted Nov 1 2010, 5:34 am

Soon after I arrived home from Sugarcreek on Saturday, my husband took me out to dinner. Yesterday after church I ended up napping and reading, and carrying up 22 years of Christmas houses upstairs from our basement. During all this, I thought about my solo trip to Sugarcreek…and how it went by far too fast.

In honor of that…here’s my own, Shelley Shepard Gray List of some of My Favorite Things About Sugarcreek:

10) I love that there are fields and fields of cornstalks right now. I don’t know how some of those farmers are able to stack the hay the way they do…they all looked like the stalks were stacked upright… but boy did those fields look perfectly scary…

9) I love all the little shops there, including all the new ones on the Carlisle Inn property in Sugarcreek.

8) Speaking of the Carlisle, I love this beautiful hotel! I love all the Shaker furniture decorating the halls. And I loved how pleasant and friendly everyone who worked there was. And, thanks to a mix-up, I loved my deluxe room with a fireplace in it. I really never wanted to leave…

7) I love that somehow I never fail to get lost in the windy roads around Sugarcreek. Last Christmas, my family and I got all turned around in the snowy hills. On Saturday, I ended up in nearby Charm for almost an hour.

6) Which brings me to sheep. I love how many fields of white, fluffy sheep I saw! I love that while I was driving around in Charm I had to stop for a flock crossing the street, all by themselves.

5) I love The Gospel Shop, located right in the middle of Sugarcreek’s Swiss Village. Rhoda, the owner, is so very nice~and never fails to make me feel welcome.

4) I love that when you walk around the Swiss Village-there is Swiss music playing!

3) I love going out to eat in Sugarcreek and nearby Walnut Creek. On Friday night, I had green beans and Broasted Chicken and mashed potatoes…and coconut cream pie, of course!

2) I love seeing my Amish friend and her family. I really love catching up with her.

1) And Finally, I LOVE meeting all the readers that came to Sugarcreek to say hello, and all the new people I met, too! Thank you to everyone who stopped by and made my booksigning such a success. I hope I’ll get to sign there again next October.

Is there a town any of you really enjoy visiting?

Hi Shelley! I am so glad the booksigning went well. We really really wanted to be there but we had family plans that day. I love most of the things you have listed about Sugarcreek too! The Carlisle Inn is wonderful. We stayed there once but it has been quite a few years ago. I cannot wait to go buy Grace! I am going to try my local Christian bookstore first and then if I can’t find it there, I’ll go to Walmart. We (the girls in my family) like to go to Waynesville, Ohio. It is packed with antique and specialty shops and the people are so nice. They also have a der Dutchman. We plan to go sometime in the next couple months. Have fun putting Christmas up! I am gonna try to wait a few more weeks but I usually can’t. My whole family is like that! We all go crazy with decorations!

Hi Shelley! I was so thrilled to meet you at Sugarcreek. Thank you soooo much for signing all 4 of my books. The next time that you are in Sugarcreek, I am sure that I will be stopping by again so that I can have you sign the rest of my books that I plan to buy of yours. I am very excited to begin reading Grace, because I loved the first 3 books in the Sisters of the Heart series. 🙂 You truly made my day in Sugarcreek.

Not only did I enjoy visiting and meeting you at the Gospel store… I enjoyed my whole entire visit in Sugarcreek, Charm, Berlin and Mt. Hope. I love everything there.. it is all so beautiful.

Again, thank you for taking the time to sign my books and I hope that you enjoyed your visit to Sugarcreek. I look forward to seeing you there once again in the near future!

      Dear Brittany,

Meeting you made my day, too! It was so sweet of you to bring the other books you had. I was thrilled to sign them. : )

I really hope you will enjoy GRACE.

It was a little busy when you and your mom were there, we didn’t get much of a chance to talk. I know you just graduated, but I didn’t get a chance to ask what your future plans were~ if you want, email me privately and fill me in. I’ve been thinking about you a lot.

I’m so glad you got to spend some time in the surrounding areas. I hope y’all didn’t get as lost as I did in Charm!

Take care, Brittany, and thank you so much for coming to Sugarcreek, and for writing a note here. : )

Thanks again for coming to Sugarcreek for the book signing! Your books are AWESOME! I had a great time on Saturday too. After we stopped by for you to sign a couple of my books, my family and I went to the
Schrock Farm and we took a Amish buggy ride, it was so much fun. Hopefully, we will see you next October for another Christmas book. Thanks again for your wonderful books, I look forward to reading Grace. I have all your books so far and only three of them are not signed. Maybe, I’ll have to bring them next time. Anyway, may God be with you and your family always. Have a Merry Christmas and A Happy and Blessed New Year.

    In Christ,

I was so happy to see you again! Thank you for coming to the booksigning. I really hope you and your daughter will enjoy GRACE.

Oh, that buggy ride sounds like so much fun! Right after the booksigning, I had to head back south. It was such a beautiful day, though. I would have loved to have spent more time in Sugarcreek!

Yes, please bring any of your unsigned books next time we see each other. It would be an honor to sign them. I’m so grateful for your support.

I hope your holidays will be wonderful, too. God bless you. Shelley

    Hi Keri,

I’m sorry you weren’t able to come to Sugarcreek, but I certainly understand. It’s a long way to go…especially so close to Halloween! I hope you had a nice weekend with your kids!

I hope you’ll have good luck finding GRACE at the Christian Book Store. I wish more CBA stores would carry my books.

I live very near Waynesville! I like that Der Dutchman, too, though they just had a big fire. I’m not sure if they’re open right now or not…

    You take care, Keri!
